A victim advocate conducts an intake and prepares an affidavit, then a prosecutor reviews whether the legal requirements for filing a protective-order application are met. A request is not automatically approved or filed. Other safety and support referrals may be offered during intake.

Eligibility

People seeking protection related to family violence, sexual assault, stalking, or trafficking. Prosecutors determine whether the facts meet the legal requirements. Call 911 when there is immediate danger.

What to bring

Bring available police reports or case numbers, injury photos, messages, letters, audio or video, the other person’s current address, and identification. Staff can provide guidance when a police report or some evidence is unavailable. Keep safety in mind when storing evidence.
